This taco truck hits Sukhumvit with a taste of Southern California.
Run by chefs who cut their teeth in the kitchen of Gaggan and Gaa, this taco truck hits Sukhumvit with a taste of Southern California, bringing LA-style Mexican fare to our very own City of Angels. Los Angeles is infamous for it’s Mexican food culture and you can relive those Cali nights with a short but sweet menu of quesadillas (B160), which see cheese griddled over the plancha before being topped with their version of chicken tinga, then laid over a warm flour tortilla; and Baja-style fish tacos (B160/two), featuring deep-fried white fish topped with sliced cabbage, salsa and smoky chipotle mayo all wrapped up in a flour tortilla.
What really sets Cholos apart, however, is the house specialty, birria (B160/two), an aromatic stew hailing from Jalisco, Mexico. If you know your Mexican food, you’ll know that birria is typically made with goat, chilis and spices like cinnamon and clove, yet here they’ve chosen to make it with pork instead and, although we were a bit wary, it does not disappoint. Savor it in its best form, piled over corn tortillas topped with coriander and onion, and served with its consomme for dipping.
To top it off, you can wash it all down with homemade agua de Jamaica (B30), a refreshing hibiscus drink served over ice. All dishes can be served as a combo with beans, Mexican rice and any drink for an additional B60.
Still bearing the faded markings of its former occupant, Rocket, the truck is temporarily located in the parking lot of Sukhumvit Soi 12’s Bangkapi Mansion condominium. Although it has very limited seating, we highly recommend dropping by in person to get your tacos freshly made. Otherwise, delivery is available through Lineman and soon through their website, too.
